Ran across a website today with a bunch of representations of Manhattan. Apparently today is the 200th anniversary of the Manhattan street grid.
There were a number of different maps that stood out in the bunch. It’s amazing to see how much has changed.
This first is a representation of what it might have looked like in 1609.
Here’s the version where it was still drawn horizontally.
Representation of all of the hills on the island..
And the Inception street view.. pretty innovative way at looking at a city map.
I think I’ve discovered a love for maps and all things relating to information design. Here are some from Paula Scher. The small scale versions of these hardly do them justice as there is so much detail involved.
And finally some of her most recent work that was done on the walls of a school in Queens.
